The Universal Split

The cataclysmic metaphysical event that fractured reality into two distinct timelines following the Battle for Genesis.

The Universal Split

The Universal Split is the pivotal event at the end of the Divine Crisis that shattered the singularity of the Crimson Age universe. It marks the “Point of No Return” where the core history of AnyTale diverges into two contradictory realities, born from the internal conflict of the Crimson Empress, Ishihara Shinushi, during her ascension to godhood.

The Genesis of the Rift

During the final moments of the Battle for Genesis, Ishihara absorbed the essence of the Supreme God Al’Taras. Standing at the threshold of absolute creation, she attempted to rewrite the laws of existence to fulfill her dream: a world of absolute equality where every soul possessed magic.

However, as she reached into the collective unconscious of humanity, she encountered a horrifying truth. While she desired freedom and power for all, the masses subconsciously craved a master. They yearned for an idol to worship and a tyrant to submit to. The contradiction between Ishihara’s benevolent dream and humanity’s dark desire for servitude was too great for a single reality to contain.

The resulting metaphysical explosion tore the fabric of space-time, fracturing the soul of the Empress and the universe itself.

The Two Aspects

The Split created two distinct versions of the world, each ruled by an “Aspect” of Ishihara:

  1. World A: The Aspect of the Dream
A reality where Ishihara’s original wish prevailed. It is a world of progress, meritocracy, and relative stability, where the Empress remains a guiding, though stern, savior figure.
  2. World B: The Aspect of Desire
A reality born from humanity’s craving for submission. In this timeline, the “Evil” Ishihara emerged—a tyrannical, malevolent Goddess who rules through fear and absolute hegemony. This Aspect embodies the dark truth that people often prefer the comfort of chains to the burden of freedom.

The “Dark Canon” (World B)

For the purposes of the primary AnyTale Roleplay (RP), World B is considered the official canon. The reign of the “Evil” Ishihara and the subsequent struggles against her global tyranny provide the high-stakes environment where most legendary stories take place.

[!CAUTION] Canon Note: While World B is the default setting for official narratives, the Universal Split serves as a “Meta-Anchor” for all creators.

The Game Master’s Prerogative

The Universal Split is intentionally designed as a narrative junction. For Game Masters and storytellers, this event represents total creative freedom:

  • The Shared Prequel: Everything that occurred before the Battle for Genesis (The Kings Arc, The Vampire Wars, etc.) is considered universal history, shared by all timelines.
  • The Point of No Return: Once a campaign reaches the Split, the GM has the authority to decide which path the world takes—or even create a third, unique branch.
  • Player Agency: Groups can choose to play in the “Golden Age” of World A or the “Dark Hegemony” of World B depending on the tone of their adventure.

In the grand architecture of AnyTale, the Split ensures that while the “Dark Canon” exists, the spirit of the game remains open-ended, allowing every table to define their own destiny after the gods have fallen.
