Kaylen Vayne
The legendary veteran and moral compass of the Hero Party. A disciplined half-elf who fights to uphold the Heroic Code amidst the collapse of his team and the world.
Kaylen Vayne
Kaylen Vayne is a legendary figure and the senior member of the Hero Party. A half-elf of immense renown, he is famous for stopping a major Demon Invasion decades prior to the current events. He serves as the mentor and stabilizer for the younger generation of heroes, particularly Joe.
Kaylen is the embodiment of the “Heroic Code”: he believes that those with absolute power must remain neutral in the political affairs of mortals to avoid tyranny. Throughout the conflicts of the Crimson Age, he struggles to keep his team together as ideologies clash and friends betray one another.
Personality
Kaylen is calm, diplomatic, and deeply principled. Unlike the hot-headed Joe or the hedonistic Hentaiji, Kaylen prefers negotiation over violence and stability over revolution. He holds a deep disdain for lies and deception.
He cares deeply for his teammates, viewing them as family. This loyalty is his greatest strength and weakness; he refused to believe Hentaiji betrayed them of his own free will, insisting he was brainwashed by the Crimson Empire. He often acts as the “adult in the room,” trying to mitigate the damage caused by Joe’s impulsive interventions in sovereign nations.
Abilities
[!IMPORTANT] Transformation Magic (Battle Form): Kaylen can enter a high-powered Battle Form. In this state, his physical capabilities are enhanced to god-like levels, allowing him to fight entities capable of destroying cities.
Aerial Combat: He is a master of aerial maneuvering, often engaging enemies in the sky (as seen in his duel against Shino’ah and Iris).
Combo Attacks: Kaylen is skilled in coordinated warfare. He frequently utilized team attacks (such as the “Mortal Kombat” move) with Hentaiji before the latter’s defection.
Role in the Story
The Velltrain Crisis
Kaylen was summoned to the Kingdom of Velltrain by Lord Regent Elaric. Unlike Joe, Kaylen initially refused to intervene in the internal political struggle between Elaric and Sirenna Grayward, citing the Hero Code.
- He warned Elaric about the unstable nature of his teammate Hentaiji, advising the Regent not to accept Hentaiji’s “help” due to the hero’s perverse demands.
- He eventually threatened to expel Joe from the Hero Party for unilaterally taking over the government of Velltrain.
The Schism in Kaioren
During the rise of the Crimson Empire, Kaylen led the Hero Party to stop Ishihara Shinushi.
- He witnessed the betrayal of Hentaiji, who defected to the Empire. Kaylen desperately tried to reason with him, believing Hentaiji was being mind-controlled by Iris (Ren) and Nozomi, unable to accept that his friend chose lust and power over duty.
- He fought a brutal duel against Iris (in giant form). Despite his power, Kaylen was defeated, suffering a crushing blow that forced the Heroes to retreat.
The Demon Invasion
Kaylen played a pivotal role in defending the world during the Demon Invasion.
- He arrived in Cyrell to stop the rampaging High Demon Shino’ah (Succubus).
- He was forced to fight his own disciple, Joe, who refused to abandon his political position in the city. After beating some sense into Joe, they teamed up to fight the demon threat.
- He attempted to arrest Nozomi but was thwarted by her escape and the chaotic intervention of the Empire.
The Divine Crisis
Realizing the threat of the Gods outweighed any mortal conflict, Kaylen entered a temporary alliance with Ishihara Shinushi.
- He invaded the Divine Dimension alongside the Imperial forces.
- Battle vs. Daraion: In the arena of the Gods, Kaylen engaged Daraion (God of Justice). In a brutal melee, Kaylen pummeled the God into submission, proving that mortal heroes could rival divine beings.
- The Final Act: He witnessed the final battle against Al’Taras. Recognizing that victory was impossible without sacrifice, he agreed to transfer his energy to Ishihara, aiding her ascension to defeat the Supreme God. He survived the rewriting of the universe, carried over into the new reality.
